(welcome to minnesota) how to talk about what is important

while many are out
protesting gun violence
and the moronic, petulant
politicians
that they hate for their hatred (irony),
transit workers are being
beaten in the streets to silence,
Minnesota families are being taxed
beyond belief to silence,
and social media is acting big brother to silence.
i am not sure that we all hear.
but you don’t
care, and you are there.
go fund me about it.
go start some new petition.
go join a herd of same.
i have too truly.
it is my true duty.

cold as cold as cold and cspan

it is 6 degrees in frogtown, mn,
i am inside sick watching cspan

and a baby sleep in his rock
& play, wife in the kitchen watching

a cracked screen. my face is full
of snot, head full of congestion, watching

talking heads tell me about “fake news”
and debates and their influences.

(easy, i could take their words for it
they probably don’t care about mine.)

someone wears a bandaid on his cheek;
the president wants a deep dive

investigation; and the red hot chili
peppers had a forgotten album in 2004, says reddit.

i wonder about where i was at that time,
i don’t know how that all factors

into everything, but mostly i care
about what is right here, around me.

wooden floors and naked feet–pallid,
lemon sinks to the bottom of my mug

as a blue whale in the south pacific,
muddy water coffee waits on a tablecloth,

plastic snug on the windows, electrical heaters
and baby toys. a coat hangs slack

like yesterday. i know how hillary
felt when she fell into that van,

now i’m with her. now i am sick.
now i am achy as a lab skeleton cold.

an evening apartment

where gin drinks made wet rings upon wooden floors,
as open windows became sirens ringing in my ears.

Falling Through Ice (Estes Park, CO)

“Stupidity is a comical art.”

-Anonymous

There was a mountain high,

Of which I climbed the side,

There was a lake deep below,

Of which I fell inside,

There was a parking lot where I stood, naked for all eyes,

Of which travelers laughed as they drove by- what a sight.

She (We Met Up Again Tonight)

In tight black jeans that fit me perfectly;

White pills distract with connect the dots.

Downtown pale steam-filled air hangs overhead;

Presently cold defines hot.

-3 PBR’s and 2 American Spirits später.

I wait for my girl to get back home.

Suddenly, standing patient at The Light Rail station:

-Seems like ages,

-So many changes.

Our ears and lips occupied our phones.

Sit seat to the airport in heat, up, afoot, breath absorbed, as I walk forward thru open doors all alone.

-One step at a time in leather boots brown.

-Hurriedly getting aboard.

Looking around, there’s not much for people tonight.

A Monday, a frigid display of days to come, an opposite glance of the summer moments we’ve come to love.

-Ubiquitous dim light.

This ding-ding-ding sound as the dated capsule closes, and lurches forward.

Exploring diverse sorts,

Touching tender sores to feel more,

Rich to poor-it matters not anymore.

-Much amore.

Thoughts race:

Will she be late?

Will she forget the date?

Has she run off to explore?

Peace to war,

Snooze to bore,

We meet open arms to embrace, a feel-good support.

-Playing with you, fair friend.

Momentary heavy thoughts fill my head.

People complain about the relationships they’re in.

That is because they are not really in one.

They have not the strength to come to terms and begin one.

Self-respect means being honest with oneself, truly-without a doubt.

An old math teacher once told me, “If it works, it’s gotta be right.” *

We met up again tonight.
