What of Water?

Each morning
bells ring.

Tired hands
clasp and twist knobs.
Fingers fondling
fidget on dials.
Bolt upright
sharp angles in bed.

Legs swing round
to touch wooden floors.

Stand walking to alabaster bathroom door.

Drawing curtains,
transparent.

Naked and drowsy,
there is nothing left to hide.
Flood of water
on the rise.
Switch to nozzle,
step inside
A slippery wet tub.
Lather. Rinse. Dry.

We are washing in that same water that alludes the thirsty.
Out of the many problems we make, what could the worst be?

I came out clean, save for conscious.

Conscious Continued

On the State Level:

What is Freedom without Oppression?

Sunday liquor sales we don’t mention

Exclusive capital through resource retention

Taking the environment without apprehension

Marijuana is off the books because opiates pay pensions

Then we walk with hanging heads

Then we eat what we’ve been fed.

***

Paper collection friendships

Corporations part of a faceless community

But they have our president’s holy graces*

Existence thriving in high places so astutely

Their tree bearing tainted fruit

That is only being eaten by the ignorant and aloof.

***

As I am:

Taking the bus to work

Wearing same dirty old shirt

While not putting on airs

Not pretending unawares

Liars hold more account on the politician’s ear

Forsaken bent sinewy grotesque and clear, yet standing tall they still appear.

***

The trains roll through the station

But my Amtrak is late

Here’s to frack mines devastation

The passengers will wait

This one has been delayed

On to better days

Money rolls in, they can’t differentiate

But we must remain

Priorities not for minorities

A lesson in disgrace

Haven’t read the history

But what’s important before today’s date?

One could tell a story

And call it reality too

One could fly a sign

In hopes of attaining food

Desk sit forty hours

No wonder why I’m rude

Don’t count the flowers

Straighten up that rebellious attitude

That’s all.

This is local-

They appear global-

What about America?

What about global hysteria?

Working The Desk 1001

Cool cubicle setting, a weathered view of present outside heat,

I never thought a job like this,

In a library I sit, comforted around so many resources-a relief.

(Not a soul to bark at me to move my feet.)

Making a stand at growing my wits.

In between now and accomplishment.

To date I check out and stack books.

To the next I watch for an approving look.

For what bar codes, laser scanners, and computer records exist.

Tomorrow I’ll be somewhere else, doing about the same, checking off a new and different list.

What a vast world there is.

I’d say, wow, things have changed.

And some stop at earning a career.

Life Lesson From a Lowly Twenty Something Year Old:

Just as you look down your attention is seized by that which makes you look up.

A friendly face makes a machine beep just behind my chair.

Logic explains not to care.

Any questions?

Balance the equation,

At present I feel I am getting more than I bargained for;

Pleasantly Surprised with all before my eyes,

Viewing situations from different angles to measure score.

Like always, and as before.

Sometimes  you need to know where you stand.
