Local News on Finding the Missing

Local news helicopters clapped with
their loud sound as they converged
overhead on the scene, where strangers stopped
to mingle at Coffman Mall, thoughts the worst,
converse on occurrences this once;
I heard “she jumped off the 10th Avenue Bridge,”
a bystander rattled off as rain patted
my mourning-black jacket wet,
standing in a crowd of unknowns, nobodies,
with that heavy buzzing sound in my ears,
while eyes of those around on the ground
looked up—to focus, at those looking down,
focusing, seeing their intrigued glassy whites,
for a moment, everyone watched,
then off they went, no “buddy system”,
about their days in different directions.

Bakken through Minneapolis

Night black as Bakken
oil, which malignly pours past silent
communities,

shipped in cryptic-marked tanker cars
under cover of darkness, rightly
so, they move obtusely opaque—

opposite downtown lights which stick to a wetted haze
in the distance, making this Midwest city glow
for miles—some say 150 of them away.

The shit we’ve seen, and haven’t.

That which creeps along can be found in a jet, in
a car, or on foot,

in hardened
rock snow-crust, cold as a
flushed-toilet shower’s mist—you know; everything
is connected, retraced, unplugged,
tubed, tied, aborted,
and rewind.

Truths for lies:
This is safe,
This is fact,
This in fact is safe,
We care about you.

It is snug-up, or snug-down, or
just snug enough, or caught in between comfortable,
and I can’t go outside,
I have to decide.

Then it is: A pub visit, a flipped
switch, a lit door in the distance—these
palm trees have become foreigners
in desert sands which have turned to mud
by native rain power in your very living room
by way of: your very hand;

the vessel you hold,
repurposed from some ornate
decoration, from some ornate
description, from so-and-so’s ornate party,
or from some ornate magazine—ornate parts
of these

-Cult clubs.

And that is life:
black as night as petro ships by, as exhaust fumes fly,
as exhausted you sleeps, you snore, you don’t think;
as an “elected” official’s bank account goes cha-ching,
as a CEO draws outside of the lines, and talks energy.

(of course we need)

as the air goes in and out
of his mouth,
and in and out,
and in and out—

Like fucking, really.
Hey, you thought it. 🙂

Humans without a care,
they are there happily unawares.

With smiles on their dreaming faces,
as that napalm tube rolls on steel wheels in their backyards.

Coffee Croissant and Cigarette

I’ll take a coffee croissant and cigarette-
To pull me out of this cold,
To help me forget.

I’ll take a coffee croissant and cigarette-
Deep chills in the wind,
Heavy bundled at best.

I’ll take a coffee croissant and cigarette-
Miracles do happen,
However snow comes ubiquitous, wet.

I’ll take a coffee croissant and cigarette-
People have needs,
When hands are full satisfaction is met.

I’ll take all of the above, because if I look below I see: Ice. Salt. and Snow.

Media Scandal (Print Shit)

Just up the stairs.

Just down the hall.

Just out the door.

Written on all the walls.

Above the low.

Below the Glow.

Until the sun explodes.

We grow into tight repose.

Reading, shuffling our eyes;

Mundane, lacking keywords-no surprise.

Across the bridge.

Through eyelids and grins.

Ink like squids, afraid.

Made up like kids in past days.

Read, we’ve skimmed,

Looking for what interests her or him,

Between ads and shit.

Everyone is a witness.

Definitive and absolute on a whim.

Vicious id.

Have we truly lived?

Overdue when dead.

Leak like sieve, what gives?

All the articles we’ve read.

I’ve said.

Keeping my head on whilst trying to get fed.

Believing not what the paper’s black print bled.

I forgot the daily toilet pages, lest save dread.

Above all, those who remember are intentionally misled.

What do they print now-a-days?

What a waste, where’s the good nature?

Empty-headed straight-forward space-case, ready to put you in your place.

News Flash: External Cost, all we’ve lost in the name of being current, avoiding danger.

Newspaper Make-up: Corporation, Ads, Assumptions, and naive strangers.

Take up logic and stop it…

I usually read more than one.
